The Schwartz Center for Athletic Excellence opened its doors on October 4, 2013. The stunning 34,747 sf facility included a new football-players’ lounge; a stylish and modern locker room; a 120-seat auditorium; a student-athlete academic center; academic and compliance offices, sports medicine and hydrotherapy training areas; and a Gallery of Champions that showcases the proud championship tradition of UM Hurricanes athletics. In addition to becoming the focal point of the Hurricanes athletic complex, the Schwartz Center connects to the Hecht Athletic Center, which features a state-of-the-art athletic training room, rehabilitation rooms and a communications/marketing office suite. In January 2015, the Schwartz Center was officially recognized as a LEED Gold certified building. Sustainable highlights included a reflective roof, energy-efficient glazing, high-efficiency HVAC systems, enhanced views, low VOC materials, a high volume of recycled and regional materials, native plantings, low-water usage for irrigation, high-efficiency plumbing fixtures, eco-friendly refrigerants, and alternative-transportation incentives. This higher education project with multi-purpose spaces is ADA Compliant.

Located next to the Aquatics Complex on Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Fort Lauderdale/Davie campus, the LEED Gold certified (in 2017) building addition spans 59,000 sf and includes state-of-the-art training and fitness rooms for student-athletes participating in 15 different sports; a gymnasium for basketball, volleyball and other activities; a general purpose activity room for use by students as young as junior kindergarten; offices for athletic department staff; locker room facilities for aquatics and visiting athletes; and an office suite for Special Olympics Broward County. To complement the project, the original sports center received refurbishments to enhance classroom/programming areas. This higher education project with multi-purpose spaces is ADA Compliant.
