The Schwartz Center for Athletic Excellence opened its doors on October 4, 2013. The stunning 34,747 sf facility included a new football-players’ lounge; a stylish and modern locker room; a 120-seat auditorium; a student-athlete academic center; academic and compliance offices, sports medicine and hydrotherapy training areas; and a Gallery of Champions that showcases the proud championship tradition of UM Hurricanes athletics. In addition to becoming the focal point of the Hurricanes athletic complex, the Schwartz Center connects to the Hecht Athletic Center, which features a state-of-the-art athletic training room, rehabilitation rooms and a communications/marketing office suite. In January 2015, the Schwartz Center was officially recognized as a LEED Gold certified building. Sustainable highlights included a reflective roof, energy-efficient glazing, high-efficiency HVAC systems, enhanced views, low VOC materials, a high volume of recycled and regional materials, native plantings, low-water usage for irrigation, high-efficiency plumbing fixtures, eco-friendly refrigerants, and alternative-transportation incentives.
