Harvard Jolly / John Czerkas - Pinellas County Schools
246,000 sf

Spinnaker Group provided LEED Consulting and Basic Commissioning for this 246,000 sf K-12 education project, which earned LEED for School Gold certification in March 2012. When administrators at the Pinellas County School District decided to replace the original 50-year-old Boca Ciega High School, one of the highest goals was to build a flexible, sustainable building that could better serve the needs of its 2,000 students. In addition, the school district wanted to fix the frequent summertime flooding and to upgrade the internal technology and site infrastructure to comply with current standards, including going after the prestigious LEED Gold certification. The new campus featured replacement classrooms, a new cafeteria and administrative and mechanical support facilities across 37 acres. Spinnaker Group's efforts to secure the important certification addressed site issues, recycling materials, water efficiency, lighting and HVAC efficiency, and considerations of indoor and environmental quality ... amongst other items. In addition to providing a healthy indoor environment (which is associated with higher achievement) for students and staff, this focus met Pinellas County School’s fiscal responsibility by contributing significant savings in both energy and water usage, and allowed teachers to create new curriculum to teach students about science and the environment.
